Daryl & Rhonda Lassoed for Life: Our Love Story — 30 Years Strong!

Chapter 1: How It All Began

It all started one ordinary night back in 1995 in Killeen, Texas.

Daryl was at the phone center on 8th Street, talking to his mama, while I sat in the car at 7-Eleven, waiting for my friend to come out the store.

Out of nowhere, Daryl walked up to the car and spoke. Smooth, confident, and curious, he asked my name, my number, and where I lived. I didn’t even write it down — just blurted it out. I figured that was that.

But early the next morning, I heard a knock on the door. Standing there in his PT clothes, smiling like he had all the time in the world, was Daryl. I was shocked he remembered anything I said the night before — but he sure did.

Chapter 2: The Courthouse and “Honey’s” Ring

We didn’t know each other long, but when love is sent by God, it doesn’t take forever to recognize it.

Later that same year, on September 28, 1995, we went to the courthouse in Killeen, Texas, with my mama, Maggie “Honey” Deckard, by our side.

We didn’t have much — not even rings. My mama let Daryl borrow hers for the vows. It wasn’t fancy, but it was sacred. That day, our forever began.

Chapter 3: Germany, Growth, and God

In 1997, the Army stationed us in Friedberg, Germany, and that’s where our faith roots started to run deep.

We met Elder and Lady Chambers, who introduced us to the ministry of oneness and connected us with Pastor and Lady Thompson.

It was in Germany that both of us were baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost on the same night.

Two twenty-somethings with two little ones — a one-year-old and a four-year-old — learning about love, faith, and family all at once

Chapter 4: New Chapters, New Tests

After three years overseas, we returned to Fort Stewart, Georgia.

When Daryl left the military, we moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 2001, just months after our last child was born.

But the city life wasn’t for me — too fast, too dangerous, too far from peace.

Even then, we stayed connected with Bishop and Lady Thompson, sometimes driving from Florida just to make it to church.

Chapter 5: Obedience & Our First Home

Wanting to be closer to the ministry, we moved to Statesboro, Georgia.

Daryl worked in Savannah, and we made that trip to Augusta every week for church.

One day, Bishop Thompson told us, “Start looking for a house.”

We hesitated, because the numbers didn’t make sense — but faith doesn’t always follow math.

On Christmas Eve 2004, we closed on our first home.

That was nothing but God — favor, faith, and timing working hand in hand.

Chapter 6 : Through It All

Life hasn’t been perfect. We’ve faced challenges, had disagreements, seen seasons where faith had to carry us.

But through every bump, God kept us.

We grew from newlyweds with borrowed rings to homeowners, parents, and partners in purpose.

What kept us wasn’t luck — it was prayer, forgiveness, laughter, and love anchored in God’s promises.

Chapter 7: Thirty Years Later

Now, thirty years later, we can truly say:

If it had not been for the Lord on our side, we wouldn’t have made it.

From that quick hello outside a 7-Eleven to a covenant that’s still standing strong — our journey is proof that God writes the best love stories.

What began with a borrowed ring became a bond that can’t be broken.

Through the years, we’ve shared laughter, tears, three beautiful children, and countless blessings.
